BBC denies cover-up of Jimmy Savile scandal

Broadcaster defends move not to air 2011 inquiry into abuse allegations surrounding TV host.

To some people he was a British institution, a flamboyant TV host who raised millions for charity. A year after his death, however, Jimmy Savile’s reputation has been destroyed by a series of sex abuse allegations.

The company he worked for, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), has now been forced to defend itself against accusations that it tried to cover up the scandal.

In December, the BBC decided not to broadcast an investigation into the charges.
