Female candidates bid to shake up Brazil poll

This year marks the 80th anniversary of women earning the right to vote in Brazil, yet few of the 450,000 candidates running for local council elections are female.

In 2010, Dilma Rousseff became the nation’s first female president, but female government officials are still few and far between in a country where 52 per cent of the voters are women.

Al Jazeera’s Gabriel Elizondo, reporting from Porto Alegre, meets with one candidate hoping to change that.
