It has been 600 years since Joan of Arc died – but this revered French figure is back in the headlines again as the country’s presidential candidates try to lay claim to her in a bid to woo voters.
France goes to the polls this year and both Nicholas Sarkozy, the current president, and Marine Le Pen, his far right opponent, have been making attempts to use the conquering teenager’s popularity to boost their own.
