South Sudan struggles as world’s newest state

Six months after creation, migrants still pouring into nation scarred by years of war.

It has been almost exactly a year since 99 per cent of people in southern Sudan voted in favour of breaking away from the north and forming their own country.

South Sudan was declared the world’s newest country on July 9 last year, but six months later it is still struggling to recover from years of conflict.
