In Afghanistan, number 39 is unlucky for some

Associated with prostitution, an online campaign now aims to make the number acceptable again.

The number 39 is associated with prostitution in Afghanistan and, carrying strong connotations of scandal, it is treated like a cursed number.

Most Afghan’s refrain from association with the number. Last month, at the traditional Loya Jirga or grand assembly of tribal elders, divided into committees, the number had to be skipped all together when one committee refused to accept it as their designation.

Now, one man is trying to dispel the negative links to the number with an online campaign.
