Rural Mexico emerges as robotics hub

Students in Chiapas alter expectations by competing in international robotics contest.

Rural Mexico technology

In southern Mexico, a rural and marginalised region is experiencing a technological revolution.

Chiapas state, home to a large indigenous population, is one of the poorest states in the country and ranks among the lowest in education levels.

Even so, students at the local University of the Jungle have recently become international competitors in robotics.

Many of these young people, who once had few job possibilities besides farming, now dream of one day working for the US space agency, NASA.
