Mexico drug war victims call for justice

Residents of Chihuahua villages say authorities are failing to prosecute those who killed their loved ones.

The northern city of Chihuahua is one of Mexico’s worst hit areas for drug-related violence.

Known for its beautiful scenery and the local Tarahumara people, the state is also the heart of Mexico’s violent marijuana and heroin industry.

Some villages in Chihuahua have lost over half their populations as the fight intensifies between drug gangs for key smuggling routes.

Many residents have pushed for the government to prosecute those who killed their loved ones, but have given up on it after many years of waiting for justice.

Al Jazeera’s Adam Raney reports from the village of Creel, a tourist hub that has also been affected by drug-related violence.
