Russian oligarch punches rival in TV debate

Alexander Lebedev decides to resolve dispute with fellow tycoon by hitting him during televised forum.

Problems in the world economy can stir up strong passions, but not usually in the course of a TV debate between Russian wealthy tycoons.

Alexander Lebedev, former KGB spy and owner of Britain’s Evening Standard and The Independent, was on a short fuse during a forum on the issue.

After Sergei Polonsky, a fellow oligarch, said he was tired of “useless” discussions and would rather beat someone instead, Lebedev took him at his word and started punching.

Al Jazeera’s Peter Sharp reports.
