Russia set to launch Euro gas pipeline

As the Nord Stream pipeline nears completion, state-owned company seeks to boost profits.

Russia is putting the final touches on a new pipeline that will carry natural gas to Europe.

A quarter of the continent’s gas is already supplied by Russia – but with the opening of the new Nord Stream route in the coming weeks, the country’s powerful state-owned Gazprom company hopes to increase exports further.

Al Jazeera’s Barnaby Phillips reports from Vyborg, in northwest Russia.
