Deadly rail crash in southern India

At least 10 people have been killed and 52 injured after a moving passenger train collided into another train, which had stopped at a signal in southern India.
Salendra Babu, a senior police official, said that three train cars were derailed in the accident on Tuesday, near Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu state.
KM Babu, a police official, told Associated Press news agency that the crash occurred at night during heavy rains.
Rain also hampered rescue efforts, the Press Trust of India news agency reported.
India’s railway minister has pledged to provide compensation for the victims and launch a full investigation into the accident.
The crash occurred just days after 80 people were killed in another railway accident in Uttar Pradesh state.
In another transport accident, more than a dozen people were killed on Tuesday after a bus skidded off a road and crashed into a deep gorge in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Witnesses said that the bus driver swerved to avoid a goat before crashing.
