Human rights activists say at least 15 people have been killed in Syria as the uprising against Bashar al-Assad’s rule drags into its fifth month.
Pro-democracy rallies took place across the country on the first Friday of Ramadan, the Muslim fasting month, despite the government’s heavy-handed attempts to quell the uprising.
Witnesses have told Al Jazeera that scores of people have been killed in Hama since Sunday, when a siege was imposed by security forces on the city.
However, fear of the army has not deterred demonstrators, as Al Jazeera’s Rula Amin reports from Beirut, in neighbouring Lebanon.
