London carnival in spotlight after riots
Police will be out in force for Notting Hill Carnival but organisers say event showcases creativity and pride.

London’s police will be out in force this weekend as the city celebrates the annual Notting Hill Carnival.
It is the first major event since the UK riots earlier this month, but organisers say they are not worried about the threat of violence.
The carnival celebrates Caribbean culture and aims to give identity to young people to encourage their creativity and pride.
Clary Salandy, a Masquerade Designer, told al Jazeera: “This year’s carnival is really important and really necessary so that young people can show what they can achieve, and that there are industrious young people out there working really hard who can achieve a lot of fantastic stuff.”
Al Jazeera’s Barnaby Phillips reports from London.
