The ruling Pakistan People’s Party is supporting calls to break up the province of Punjab.

People living in the south say they are being neglected by the provincial government and an independent southern Punjab will guarantee the benefits they deserve from leaders in their own area.

But some members of Punjab’s ruling Pakistan Muslim League party (PML-N) are worried that any future borders could create animosity among the province’s different groups.
