Saving Mongolia’s last wild horses

Conservationists move to save the ancient Takhi, which is on the brink of extinction due to hunting.

Mongolia is home to the last species of truly wild horses on the planet. The Takhi horse dates back to the times of Genghis Khan – the 12th century –  but has been hunted to the brink of extinction.

Conservationists are now trying to protect the species by breeding them in zoos around the world.

Al Jazeera’s Melissa Chan tracks down these elusive horses in Mongolia’s Hustai national park.
