Western Libyan town of Yafran was under siege for almost six weeks by forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi, the Libyan leader, before it was liberated by rebels.
The damage and devastation is evident on the town’s street and details are now beginning to emerge of the brutality of the Gaddafi troops.
The city’s hospital effectively became a military base for Gaddafi’s forces who banned medical staff from leaving and even attacked them.
Medical staff told Al Jazeera that two women among them were sexually assaulted and a nurse was allegedly raped.
