The Iraqi government have said that it will hold a summit in a week’s time to decide whether to ask US troops to stay on longer than plannned.

The US had promised a pull-out deadline for 2011. Ali al Dabbagh, an Iraqi government spokesman, told Al Jazeera that all political parties will have a say.

“I think the decision is not up to others it is up to Iraqis. We do need the majority to decide which is good for Iraq, the interests of Iraq the interests of the people we do need to find out which is good for Iraq,” he said.

However, as Al Jazeera’s Jane Arraf reports from Baghdad, many Iraqis already know they want US troops out.
