Human habitat threatens Kenya lions

Burgeoning population around lion reserve presents roadblocks to conservation.

Kenya lion numbers

In Kenya, human habitat near a lion reserve has led to conflict between the king of jungle and people, which has resulted in the rapid killing of the wild beast in recent years.

More than 40 per cent of the species has been lost in the last 10 years only, and conservationists warn, with the current rate of deaths, the lion may vanish in 20 years.

The government has promised to take action, but lack of resources and the burgeoning population around lion reserves present a major roadblock.
