Communists routed in West Bengal polls
Historic defeat in Indian state brings to an end the Communist Party’s 34 years in power.

The Communist Party has suffered a historic defeat in India’s regional elections, losing in its two main bastions of West Bengal and Kerala.
Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress is on course to win a landslide in West Bengal, bringing to an end the communists’ 34 years in power.
