Hague hearing for Kenyan politicians

“Ocampo Six”, accused of instigating post-poll violence, want a local tribunal to try their cases.

Six high-profile Kenyan politicians are due to appear at the International Criminal Court. The so-called Ocampo Six are accused of masterminding violence after Kenya’s December 2007 elections, in which more than 1000 people died.

A pre-trial hearing will be held at The Hague in the Netherlands.

As Catherine Soi reports from Eldoret, in western Kenya, the purpose of the hearing is to formally present the charges to the suspects, and for prosecutors to determine whether or not to proceed with the trial.
