Getting the iconic train getting back on the rails is seen as a symbol of the gathering momentum of reconstruction across areas devastated by the 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami of March 11.

The operator has partially restored services on the Tohoku Shinkansen line between Tokyo and Sendai in northern Japan – the first time in 45 days – a sure sign that the island nation is trying rebuild their lives in the wake of recent destruction.

Al Jazeera’s Veronica Pedrosa reports.
