UK admits Libya mission failure

Arrest of eight-man team by rebel forces proves embarrassment for Britain’s foreign minister.

William Hague, the UK’s foreign minister, has acknowledged he personally authorised a failed secret mission in Libya.

Eight members of a special forces team were captured by the fighters as they landed in the country’s east hoping to make contact with the opposition.

They have now been released, but the events have been an embarrassment for Britain’s government.

Al Jazeera’s Alan Fisher reports.
