The search for extraterrestrial life may be the stuff of science fiction.
But that was the mission set for the stargazers at the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) institute, in northern California, until they ran out of money.
An online fundraising drive called SETI Stars was set up after the institute had to shut down its operations.
Now, five months later, the campaign has raised almost $230,000 and operations have resumed.
