India launches ‘world’s cheapest tablet’
Government hopes $45 machine aimed at students will make technology accessible to more Indians.

An Indian-made touchscreen computer which costs just $45 has been dubbed the world’s cheapest tablet computer.
India plans to distribute more than 100,000 of the machines to students at select universities over the next few months.
In a country where laptops range from anywhere between $400 and $1,000, and where the average income is much lower, the hope is that more people, particularly the country’s youth, will have greater access to technology.
If successful, India may even sell it commercially, but experts say the design still has a long way to go.
