Mexico City debates two-year marriage licence

Call for two-year marriage licence to be introduced in capital to deal with high divorce rate causes controversy.

An estimated 16,000 couples get married every year in Mexico City, but nearly half of those marriages end in divorce within two years.

In order to deal with the high rates, one Mexican City legislator wants to introduce a two-year marriage test, where couples are offered licenses for two years initially, giving them a chance to see if their relationship should continue.

But in a predominately Catholic country, not all are happy with the proposals.
