Focus on Bangkok endangers other Thai cities

Government and military work overtime to keep capital from flooding, while other parts remain at risk.

Bangkok focus endangers other Thai cities

Ongoing efforts to keep the Thai capital, Bangkok, from flooding have proved successful thus far. However, the pumps and canals that are working overtime have done little to assuage those living in outlying areas.

In a province neighbouring the capital, residents are upset that their homes and businesses could be overrun with flood waters because of the focus on Bangkok city.

This is a fate that has already befallen an important industrial estate, employing over 270,000 people, in the province of Pathum Thani; workers there had to be evacuated as water levels rose.

Al Jazeera’s Wayne Hay reports from Pathum Thani.
