Liberia is due to hold presidential and legislative elections on Tuesday with some two million Liberians eligible to vote.

The UN ran the last election in 2005, but this time, the small West African nation is organising the vote itself.

The newly elected government will have to improve security if Liberia is to prosper.

Under Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who has been president for six years, rich nations have written off $3bn of debt, which has helped improve the economy, raise government budgets, and stimulate foreign investment.

Al Jazeera’s Yvonne Ndege reports from Monrovia.
