Philippines farmers struggle for justice

Red tape has delayed pledge to give farmers a share of the president’s family estate.

Philippines farmers struggle for their land

Farm workers in the Philippines continue to fight for their share of land from the agricultural estate owned by the Philippine president’s family, the country’s second-largest private estate.

Land reform was signed into law by President Benigno Aquino III’s mother when she was president in 1987, entitling farmers to one hectare each of the 6,000 hectares estate.

However, none of the land has yet been turned over.
