Canada cracks down on alcohol smuggling

Police trying to prevent illegal transport from French territory into Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.

Police in Canada are cracking down on smugglers who are trying to evade taxes on alcohol.

From the nearby islands of St-Pierre-Miquelon, North America’s only French territory, smugglers bring liquor illegally to a number of ports and beaches in nearby Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
