US phasing out coal power plants

White House continues to push through a plan to end reliance on coal energy, despite Republican resistance.

The Obama administration is stepping up efforts to phase out coal-burning power plants, which currently generate nearly half of US electricity needs.

But fresh from their midterm election gains, the Republicans say the new regulations will drive up energy costs and kill jobs.
