Supporters of Lebanon’s caretaker prime minister, Saad Hariri, have called for a day of anger to protest against progress made by Hezbollah in forming a new government.
During consultations on Monday, Hezbollah secured the support of a majority of parliamentarians to choose their candidate, Najib Mikati, as prime minister.
Against this backdrop, the US has warned Lebanon’s political leaders that a larger role for Hezbollah in the next cabinet could be “more problematic”, and may affect US aid to the country.
