Country takes on post as controversial media laws take effect and the euro zone struggles with debt crisis.

Hungary has assumed the six-month rotating presidency of the EU, on the same day that controversial new media laws come into effect in the country, raising questions about its suitability for the post.
The country has taken the post at a particularly delicate time, with its top priority being helping to resolve the EU debt crisis.
