After sitting out the National Assembly for five years, the opposition gains enough seats to influence decision-makin

Both president Hugo Chavez’s ruling Socialist party and the opposition are claiming victory after Sunday’s National Assembly elections in Venezuela.
Chavez’s party won the most seats in parliament but lost its two third majority, meaning he will no longer wield the vast political clout he enjoyed for five years.
And the opposition — having sat out of the National Assembly for five years – is now back at the centre of political decision-making.
