Venezuelans have gone to the polls on Sunday, in what could be the biggest upset for Hugo Chavez, the Venezuelan president, since his party took control of parliament in 2005.

Venezuela is deeply divided between those who love and those who hate the government of president Chavez. According to surveys, the polarisation is likely to get worse as the country is now almost equally divided between those who support and those who loathe the man who represents an anti-US, socialist future for Venezuela.
