US marks 9/11 anniversary

Commemorations held amid row over “Ground Zero mosque” and pastor’s threat to burn copies of the Quran.

Commemorations have taken place in the US to mark the ninth anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

Nearly 3,000 people were killed when al-Qaeda hijackers crashed airplanes into New York’s World Trade Center, the Pentagon, located near Washington DC, and a field in the US state of Pennsylvania.
