China recycling world’s junk
On the frontlines of the dirty business of China’s multi-billion dollar waste management industry.

With a population of more than one billion people, China creates massive volumes of waste.
But its recycling industry is also growing fast, one that utilises not only its own rubbish but that of other countries as well.
It is the world’s biggest importer of waste, taking in plastics from the US, for example, before transforming them into new products to be shipped back to Western countries.
Melissa Chan reports from Beijing as part of Al Jazeera’s Wasteful World series.
