Egypt’s eager military graduates
A degree from the military academy can promise job security in a poor country.

Hosni Mubarak, the president of Egypt, has attended a graduation ceremony to congratulate a new batch of trained officers from the country’s most prestigious military academy, Mubarak’s alma matar and the oldest in North Africa.
A degree from the academy can promise job security in a country grappling with poverty, but many of the graduates from the class of 2010 have bigger aspirations beyond the military.
