British PM regrets BP oil spill

David Cameron tries to assuage anger in US amid continuing anti-BP sentiments.

It has been three months since British energy giant BP’s Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, killing 11 men and sparking the worst environmental disaster in modern US history.

David Cameron, who was on his first visit to the US as British prime minister, said he understood the anger the spill had caused.

But Cameron’s words were unlikely to dampen anti-BP sentiment in the US, which has criticised the British company for putting its image above cleanup priorities.
