Clashes broke out on the outskirts of Kabul, the Afghan capital, leaving several police officers and civilians injured.
The protest against Nato forces in Afghanistan was prompted by a raid on a religious school, or madrassa, on Monday night.
Government officials said they arrested at least three suspects including the imam from the religious school.
