Ethnic violence grips Kyrgyzstan

Roza Otunbayeva, Kyrgyzstan’s interim leader, has told Al Jazeera that as many as 700 people may have died in ethnic clashes in the country.

But several humanitarian agencies estimate more than a 1,000 people have been killed in clashes between Kyrgyz and ethnic Uzbeks.
