Afghanistan’s brisk security trade

As the security situation fails to improve in Afghanistan, tribal fighters are often called upon to provide protection.

These irregular forces exist in many parts of Afghanistan – and are sometimes armed, equipped and supplied with intelligence information by the US and its allies.

But now Hamid Karzai, the Afghan president, wants all such militias banned.

But the plan to remove militias will be complicated and take considerable time.
