Cuts threaten US schools
Downturn forces cuts in public services with many schools facing closure.

One of the biggest casualties of the economic downturn in the US has been the education system.
The recession hit the city of Detroit particularly hard, where years of decline have led to severe cuts in public services and now dozens of schools in the city are facing closure.
