Canada examines aboriginal past
Government panel seeks to shed light on forced education and abuse of aboriginal children.

Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission will hold its first national event next month to examine what is now seen as one of the darkest chapters in the country’s history.
The government now admits to the cruelty behind its forced education scheme for aboriginal children, a programme it ran for more than 150 years, where the children were often taken from their families at an early age and many were physically and sexually abused.
