Calm eludes post-revolt Kyrgyzstan

Weeks after an uprising in Kyrgyzstan that led to the ousting of Kurmanbek Bakiyev, the then president, many say the interim government has failed to maintain sufficient security in the country.

In Bishkek, the capital, last week residents said police seemed non-existant when hundreds of looters attacked 18 houses, leading to the deaths of five people.

Vigilante groups have sprung up in the country to make up for security deficiencies in the face of the continuing violence.

And some Russian-speaking Kyrgyz citizens have said that they will take no chances concerning security and will leave the country soon.
