The volume of violent crime typically associated with joblessness is down in several major US cities, despite strained law enforcement resources.
Los Angeles and New York City, for example, have hit a 40-year low in recorded murders.
Criminologists attribute the success to an aggressive and high-tech approach to targeting gangs.
