Cyprus unification hangs in balance

Voters are preparing to head to the polls in Turkish-held northern Cyprus, for an election in which Mehmet Ali Talat, the incumbent president, is pushing for reunification with rival Greek Cypriots.
Sunday’s poll could have a profound effect on the future of the island, as the incumbent’s main rival, Dervis Eroglu, seeks to bolster a breakaway state.
