The three candidates vying to be Britain’s next prime minister have clashed on a series of domestic issues during the country’s first-ever televised election debate.
Gordon Brown, the British prime minister, faced off against David Cameron, of the Conservative party, and Nick Clegg of the Liberal Democrats, on topics including crime, immigration and police funding on Thursday.
But at the end of a heated exchange, preliminary polls indicated a victory for Clegg and his third-placed political party.
