Bhutto death ‘was preventable’

UN blames Pakistani authorities for security lapses in assassination of former PM.

Benazir Bhutto

A UN report into the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan’s former prime minister, has blamed Pakistani authorities for her death.

The head of the UN inquiry said Pakistani police deliberately failed to thoroughly investigate Bhutto’s death, adding that security measures taken to protect Bhutto had been “fatally insufficient”.

The report also said Bhutto’s death could have been avoided and it called on Islamabad to bring her assassins to justice.
