The US vice-president has concluded his visit to the Palestinian city of Ramallah in the West Bank with nothing to show for his efforts to reopen Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.

Joe Biden’s efforts have been thwarted by Israeli’s latest announcement of construction of 1,600 more housing units in Ramat Shlomo, a religious settlement in an area of the occupied West Bank annexed to Jerusalem by Israel.

Biden said the move undermines trust in the peace process.
