Fleeing Haiti for better life
Even before last month’s deadly earthquake, poor Haitians sought better life abroad.

Haiti has long suffered from poverty, even before last month’s devastating earthquake.
The Caribbean island nation ranks 146th out of 177 nations on the UN’s Human Development Index, with an average salary of $70 a month.
The majority of migrants head to the United States just 800km away – making it the preferred destination for most Haitians.
