Many Iranians appear to be having difficulty accessing Gmail, Google’s e-mail service, the company has said.

Reports say Iran intends to block accessto Gmail, a move which has sparked new concerns over the censorship practices of the Iranian government.

Al Jazeera spoke with Austin Heap, the executive director of the Censorship Research Centre– a US-based non-profit organisation that helps people overcome government censorship in countries such as Iran.

Heap admits that his organisation may be helping Iranians break the law, but insists the ability to communicate freely is a basic human right.
